Regional One Health - The Moments

I spent almost a decade in front of the camera as a news reporter. And many of those days you could find me going live outside a crime scene or hospital where a victim was transported. Covering tragedy after tragedy can really get to you!!

To this day I can repeat the lines I said on LIVE TV:

“The victim was taken to Regional One Health in critical condition.”

“The victims were flown here to Regional One Health.”

“LIVE outside Regional One Health….”

The thing about all that breaking news reporting (often sensational in nature) is that I never really got to tell the rest of the story. What’s happening behind those closed doors? How many people are living because of the lifesaving work that’s happening there?

In fact, more often than not, I moved on to the next story and didn’t even have time to think about it.

Which is why I found myself in awe of the moment as we filmed this year’s Regional One Health One Night Gala video. Because for the first time ever, I was across the street telling the story of life inside the Level 1 Trauma Center.

If you don’t know, the Elvis Presley Trauma Center at Regional One Health is the only designated Level 1 Trauma Center in a 150-mile radius of Memphis. Their multidisciplinary team of highly trained specialists are available 24/7 to care for high-risk patients from Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas and Missouri. Patients who are treated here have a 97% survival rate.

On September 23rd, 2021, they cared for victims of a mass shooting at Kroger in Collierville. And that was the story we told to the crowd. How the hospital was trained and ready serve in that moment. And just how quickly everyone stepped up to help with the influx of patients in critical need. Though the event itself was a tragedy, the way the team responded is something we should all be proud of in Memphis.

Their level of care and responsibility in the most difficult moments are what make them so special. And to tell the story of what happens inside that hospital everyday is an honor too.

The importance of healthcare has been ever present the last three years in the midst of the pandemic. And we are lucky to have such an asset in our community. Without it, well, I can’t imagine how many people wouldn’t be here with us today.

The video was produced in true collaboration across our team. Everyone had a hand in making the story come to life. From shooting hours of interviews to selecting the perfect soundbites and everything in-between.

Watch the video below and if you feel so compelled, consider supporting their amazing work.
