Case Study: CodeCrew

We’ve been working with CodeCrew since they were founded in 2015. And their story, reach and mission has evolved and grown with time.

We started by making event recaps about their coding events (Hour of Code and Hackathon). And then produced a brand story to showcase their work to funders and donors across the country.

In 2020 they received a game changing grant from the NBA Foundation and continued to be supported by major national foundations.

Since 2015 we’ve helped them build a library of of stories that can be used for a variety of purposes.

Meka Egwuekwe, Co-Founder and Executive Director was the first person to bring Forever Ready on board as a video partner and continues to speak to the value in recruiting donors, volunteers and raising general awareness of their work.

“It has been key in us in raising awareness about our work. It has been key in us reaching wider audiences. It’s been key to the impact of our initiatives, period.”

Meka admits he’s a data driven person who has also realized the power of telling a story about the data.

“It's helped with us recruiting volunteers. It’s been instrumental for us, with respect to our fundraising because, you know, it's important that funders understand not only what they're getting into, but understand the stories and the impact of the individuals as well as the collective that's being impacted.”

As a result, they have recruited more volunteers to support their events. And they are seeing a rise in individual donors as well. The biggest win from a storytelling perspective is their ability to use these videos on grant applications to build bigger partnerships.

“So I could go on and on and on about all the different ways these videos have helped us. But Forever Ready and the quality at which you do this work is first class, world class.”

Since 2015 they’ve gone from a summer camp inside a community center to an organization that’s reaching people from all over the world and expanding their impact. Regular, monthly videos have helped increase that impact.

“Human beings are not moved by data, they're moved by stories. And the importance of telling stories and letting the data back up those stories, is really what we as executive directors need to fundamentally understand. And our relationship with Forever Ready has helped us double down on that principle of the storytelling.”
